Where did you volunteer?

Halton Youthbank

Why did you choose that charity?

I chose to volunteer at Halton Youthbank because I saw it as way to give young people a voice which really appealed to me. I also strongly agree with the underlying fundamental principals of Youthbank, these are to give young people somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to. I had also done grantmaking before and enjoyed it so i knew I would enjoy Youthbank as well.

What did you do?

In August I sat on the panel at group meeting each week on Thursdays as I had done for the previous nine months as well as running a training session. Throughout August I also helped to run the admin side of Youthbank as well by going into the youth service most days and help the coordinator with Youthbank related work and also completing work for the subgroup within Youthbank I ran. At the panel meeting we would assess bids, work in sub groups on Youthbank admin and also tackle issue based work relevent to the young people in the group.

Why should someone else volunteer with them?

If young people want a way to have their voice heard or have a say in what provision is made for them in the local area then I think Youthbank is the best way to do it, they get to make the final decision on what will and won't be provided in the area by distributing the funding themselves. They will gain confidence and skill that will greatly help them in later life. Also if they want to see more of what is going on with other young people in the area then Youthbank is a great way to do this as it works indirectly with hundreds of young people each year. Finally I would say volunteer with Youthbank because you will make some of your best friends there.
