Where did you volunteer?
Greenwich Ecology Park, SE10
Can you give us the contact details for the organisation you volunteered with?
www.csv.org.uk ( GO LONDON Events)
Why did you choose that charity?
I wanted to help improve the city that shelters and cares for me in so many ways. I looked around for charities that were informal and just required me and my time to make a difference. CSV Go london event provided me with that opportunity.
What did you do?
I arrived early on a Saturday morning at the mystical ecology park on the River Thames. I was greated by the team leader Joanna and assistant charles and they directed me to the area where we were working. Their they gave us a health and safety speech and then we got to work. First we removed some willows to allow sunlight onto a meadow, so that new plants could grow. We carefully cut the branches off the trees, creating long thick poles of wood. We then divided into teams all doing various tasks and my task as shown in the picture was to make fence posts, In the picture I'm sharpening the fence post so it can be hammered into the ground. Next we weaved a fence using the posts and pieces of willow branches to stop children damaging the young saplings.
Why should someone else volunteer with them?
CSV is perfect for young adults like myself who have a busy lifestyle and not much free time. They provide all the equipment and they put alot of planning into what they do so you can visibly see a clear change after a days work.
